January 31 Hello Thursday
Well I'm slowly learning more and more about out new computer. It has a lot of new programs that I have to get to know yet but so far so good. I did download the AVG antivirus and spybot. I will get adaware today. I had those on my other computer so I know they do a good job. Thanks to all of you who recommended some for me. When things are gone you forget what you had so thanks to all of you my memory was returned lol. School was closed again yesterday because of the bitter cold we had. It was 7 below but 35 below zero with wind chill and it's policy that they close when it's that cold. If I had kids who walked to school I would have let them stay home anyway no matter what. And because William was here he was on the computer all day yesterday. He really likes the new one. I did let him download a game but I checked it out and made sure they didn't have spyware etc. in it. I told him he couldn't download any free songs like he did before though. He use to like Weird All Yankovich and would download his stuff and I think we got a lot of crap from it. So I told him no more of that. Man, that's another thing. I lost all my songs that I had put on from my favorite cd's. At least I still have the cd's so I can put some of them back on here again when I want to take the time to do it.
January 29 I knew it would happenI knew as soon as William found out that we had a new computer he'd want to some and spend the night, or should I say night's with us lol. He's been telling us for months that we needed a new one but that's just because he wanted to download a game that wasn't compatible with our old one. The problem is I'm not sure I want him to download any games on here from the web. You know how it goes with those things. You get all kinds of spyware and crap from those. I'll have to check them out good before I let him do anything. Boy it's nice outside today. It's 43 and feels like 60 to me. If I get rambunctious I might go for a walk later. All the snow that we got is gone again. Well, most of it is anyway. I better enjoy this because I hear there's more on the way darn it! I lost a almost all of my addresses so those of you who email me would you kindly do it again so I can get your addresses.I would appreciate it very much. I hear there are some pretty good free antivirus programs you can download. Do you have any suggestions. I'd rather do free then have to buy one. I had Norton and this PC came with a 60 day trial but I really don't want to use them again if I can help it. It slows your PC down and besides it's expensive. Well If I'm going to get anything done on here before William gets out of school I better get at it. I'm going to sites I know I had in my favs before and adding them again. Boy you sure don't realize how much you had on your PC until you want to go look again and it's gone lol. I feel like I'm on a new adventure. January 28 What a couple of daysWe had to get a new computer. The hard drive on the old one fried somehow. I was on it Saturday all day and it worked just fine, then when we turned it on Sunday morning all I got was a black screen saying some files wee missing or corrupt. So I called Dell and they had me run a diagnostic check and whala he told me the hard drive is gone. So off we go to best buy to get a new one. I think all the pictures I had on the old one are gone forever. Some of them though I have on my site and others are in photobucket so I am happy for that. The new PC is a vista and so far I like it.I'm still learning of course. It is a lot different from windows xp though. I always have liked a challenge so this should be fun lol. I downloaded live writer on here and even that looks different. It underlines words that might be misspelled as you go along and then all you do is right click and pick out the word from the dictionary. Pretty Cool huh! My daughter and I went to Hobby Lobby today and I gotta tell ya, I LIKE THAT STORE! I got 3 big pads of deco paper, some acrylic stamps and a few other things and they were all half off. The store just opened so I imagine that's why they had so much on sale but I was glad they did.
Ok, I'm tried. I set the new computer up all by myself and getting up and down off the floor hooking everything up has worn me out. I had never hooked them up before as my son always did it for me but he wasn't here and I didn't want to wait lol. So I'm pretty proud of myself lol. But like I said, I'm tired and I'm going to go watch TV and relax. I'll be around tomorrow to say hi ya' all! January 26 Talking about Beach Party
Quote Beach Party January 24 7 inchesDo you want to hear a funny story? Beth has been telling me and telling me to send her some snow. So I took this picture of our picnic table that was piled with snow from our last snowfall and sent it to her. We got about 7 inches of snow that day so when I sent the email to her I put 7 inches in the subject line. Later we were chatting on the messenger and I asked her if she got the snow I sent her. She said no but that she would bring it up and look at it. She said she was afraid to open it on her work computer because I wrote 7 inches in the subject line LOL. You can see where her mind was LOL. Now kids, do you think I would send anything but clean wholesome emails? Don't answer that ok LOL. I laughed so hard when she told me that and I even had tears running down my face. Shame on her for thinking I would do something like that...wink wink! You guys should all go over to her site and tease her about it. I won't say where our conversation went from there, you can use your own imaginations for that. But I will say I was laughing so hard my cheeks were hurting lol I did some more scrap book pages the other day of my granddaughters and these are my favorite so far out of all that I've done so far. So I'm going to brag and put them in here. I'm really getting into this and enjoying it more then I thought I would. When I get the boys done I'll put them in here too. Well, if I like them that is.lol. Ok kids, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Have fun and be safe!!! January 23 Here I amGood Wednesday Morning to you!!! It's another cold blistery day around here. It's going down to 12 below again tonight and more snow on the way as well. The river is still rising and the ice jams are still causing problems and they have had to evacuate more people. I have never seen the river like this in all of me 60 years here. We are till under a flood warning because of the continued bitter temperatures which will cause more ice jams. People north of where I live seem to be having more flooding then the area where I'm at. It makes me wonder what will happen when all that ice starts to melt. I spent most of Saturday, Monday and all day yesterday cleaning up my space. I was at it from about 8 in the morning until dinner time last night. It opened so slow for me so I'm pretty sure it did for you as well So I thought it was time I cleaned it up. I took everything out of the guestbook except for the most recent comments. I removed the media player and some other modules. Then I tackled the blogs I wrote since I started this back in 2005. What a pain that is to do!!! I wish there was a way to remove a month at a time instead of a blog at a time but you can't. One thing I found out though is that if you use live writer to write your blogs, you can remove them from there and it goes much much faster. I wish I'd figured that out before I deleted all of 2005 and 2006 lol. I was just going to delete those 2 years but I went ahead and deleted most of 2007 too. I still have some to do but for the most part it is all gone. So, that's what I've been doing over the last few days. It's kind of sad in a way to have to remove all of them. When I started this I thought it would be a nice way to keep a journal so years from now my kids and grandchildren could look and see what went on back in the day lol. but, I guess it's not to be. I suppose the graphics and videos I had in some of my blogs helped slow it down quite a bit too. So, even though I like making things pretty and have fun adding some videos I'm not going to do that as much anymore. Oh, I heard a bit of Packer news this morning lol. The Packer game was the most watched by more people then any other game in 11 years. And guess what...11 years ago it was another Packer game that everyone was watching. Ok, I need to get around and see what the rest of you have been up too. I miss you all and feel like I've been away for a month lol. I hope you've all been good lol. January 20 GO PACK GO
January 19 Frozen riverRemember the pictures Bill took of the river a couple weeks ago. Well it is now frozen solid... Summer Picture Winter Picture with temps in the 30's plus after the snow. Today's pictures. There are several piers on the river but most are under the ice now. In the picture above you can see where the river and ice are right up to the road. See how far out the pier looks. And that is right at ground level and the water and ice is way beyond that. Another look at the pier. Here you can see how the ice is growing and jamming up. Not only that, when you are standing there you can hear the ice crack and see it climb. At this time the temperature is zero with wind chills making it - 17. Presently we are also under a flood warning because of ice jams. Quick rises of the river stage is expected to rise over the next 24 hours and possible longer due to bitterly cold temperatures causing ice jams. When I was a kid we use to ice skate on the river. We could skate all the way across and go to the big hills. At one time there was a ski jump there and we would stand on the bank and watch the skiers sail down the jump. From our vantage point it looked like they were going to land in the river but of course they never did. The ski jump was moved up north or somewhere in upper Michigan and is still in use today. I think it's one of the few last remaining wooden ski jumps still in use. In the summer there was a ski jump in the river for water skiers, and we loved watching them practice jumping over it. They were very good and we would stand and cheer them on. Not only that, we use to swim out to it and dive off. I wasn't suppose to though. My mom was a worry wart and she didn't want me out there. But hey, a girl doesn't want to be the only one left out. So of I'd go. One day though I got caught. Mom came down to check on us and there I was in the middle of the river diving off the ski jump. I sure was surprised to see her, but I was more surprised that she wasn't mad at me. She stood and watched awhile and saw that I was a good swimmer and wasn't afraid of the water. So after that I was home free and allowed to go. Man, It was fun being a kid lol!
January 15 It's only Tuesday?
Geez, it seems like this week has already been a month long to me. Then again it seems like this winter has been a year long. I'm getting that feeling again where I want to hit the road. My sister sent me an e-mail today about a job she saw that would be perfect for us. The job is being an RV courier. All you have to do is drive RV's to their destinations. They pay for the gas and you get paid for doing it. Now that's my kind of job. All my family knows just how much I like to travel so I was the first one they though of when they saw that. I don't know where they got it from but they all thought of me when they got it lol. I just might check into that! It wouldn't be a problem except that we take William to school everyday. But he'll be 16 next month and will be able to drive himself very soon lol. You won't believe what we just heard on the news. They were talking about this man from Australia who picked up his entire family and moved here to Green Bay just to follow the Packers. He sold his house, quit his job and here he is. They plan of following the family to every Packer game this season. Then he said he will go back to Australia and write a book about his adventure. Here's a bit of what he said..." 'Scullino said that when he was about 15 years old, a friend gave him a tape of a game between the Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. "It (the game) was a year old. I watched it. The Packers won. I kept watching it. There was just something about the game and the atmosphere and the strategy that got me immediately," Scullino said. Wayne was hooked. Fast-forward 20 years, and Scullino had a good job with a telecommunications company. He also had a nice home with his wife, Kelly, and their two young boys. But his passion for the Packers had never gone away. One day at work, Scullino said an idea spawned a call home. "I called Kelly up and said, 'Hey, I've got this great idea. What do you think?' And it sort of snow-balled from there," Scullino recalled. His great idea: to travel to Green Bay, but not just for one game at Lambeau Field. The family is following the Packers to every game, all season, at home and way. Scullino quit his job and the family is financing the pilgrimage with the money they made from selling their Australian home. "One person said to me, 'Man, you're crazy! That's the craziest thing I ever heard. You're following the Packers? They're not even any good,' Scullino said. He said he told that person, "Yeah, but things mean more to some people." Scullino said his brother-in-law told him once that "A man without a dream will never have a dream come true," and he said the proverb struck a chord with him. Kelly Scullino said she didn't immediately agree to the plan. "I didn't just easily say, 'Sure, sweetheart, let's do whatever you want,'" she remembered. "It was a long decision. It was actually months. It took us months to put it together." The family finally decided that there will be other jobs and other houses, and said that if they waited too long, the kids would be in school. "So we couldn't do it in three or four year's time," Wayne Scullino said. "Brett (Favre) wouldn't be playing in three or four years time, either. Well, at least we don't think so," he said with a laugh. Kelly Scullino said she is treating the whole trip as an adventure. She doesn't want people to think they're unstable." Boy he sure picked a good year to follow his dream didn't he! Now that's a Packer Fan. But it doesn't surprise me. Packer fans are like that, yeah they are ;) You can find the rest of the story at http://www.channel3000.com/sports/14444079/detail.html he also has a blog here http://www.theonceinalifetimefan.com/index.php
And now for some more Happy news! My cyber daughter Princess Pout Alot is engaged to be married to Joe! I am so happy and excited for them and wish them all the best in the world! I bet she isn't pouting anymore huh lol. Now she will have to change her name if she ever gets back to blogging again...hint hint! So sweetie... Mom #2 January 12 I love My Green Bay Packers!!!
What a game that was!!! I was so scared! The first 4 minutes of the game we fumbled the ball twice and the Seahawks recovered the ball and took it in for a touchdown. We were down 14 - 0 and I was almost in tears. But then it started snowing and I knew we were going to win. And so did Brett. Here's what he had to say...
"I've been hoping for that for 17 years," Favre said. "I was watching the weather all day and it's a shame, I'm like, 'Just give us one of those big snow games."' "I wanted to play where you couldn't see the field, and the snowplow comes out. It keeps getting worse and worse," he said. In one play Brett had the ball and was running with it and started to stumble. I thought sure he was going to fall but before he did he tossed the ball "He somehow spun free from the Seahawks' clutches and stumbled ahead in the snow. Ever the gambler, he flipped a wobbly, underhanded pass that he had no business trying, let alone completing." But complete it he did!!! My Green Bay Packers are on the way to being the NFC champs! Packers 42 Seahawks 20 Sorry about your Jags Beth. I guess it's up to the Packers to take the Patriots down!!!
January 11 Goofy Queen of the CastleI was sitting here today reading my book when the phone rang. Bill answered and said that he thinks it was Beth on the phone. What a nice surprise that was. We chatted for awhile and then my sister showed up here so we hung up. Well she didn't stay long as she was just dropping off a Big decorated chocolate chip cookie for Trent for his birthday tomorrow. Since we didn't chat too long I decided to call her back. I was telling her that Jodi dropped of the cookie and Beth says for your birthday tomorrow huh. "No" I said, "for Trent's birthday." She says it's your birthday tomorrow too. No it isn't I told her. She says it's the 12th. Yes it is the 12th but not January I said. Then she remembered that it was in February not January and boy did she start laughing. She said well your getting a birthday card in the mail lol. Sure enough while I was still talking to her Bill went out to get the mail and there was a birthday card from Beth lol. We laughed and laughed at that. She's so goofy. We were talking about birthdays not too long ago and she asked me when mine was. I wasn't going to tell her so she goes through my blogs and tells me she found it. Well, she remembered the day but not the month lol. Anyway it was funny and cute at the same time. She's a sweetheart isn't she!!! Ya gotta love her that's for sure. She had all these big plans that she was going to put on her blog tomorrow announcing to everyone that it was my birthday lol. I now wish I hadn't called her back. It would have been hilarious to go see her blog and then tell her that she's a month early lol. We laughed for a long time about that one. So my dear Beth...Thank you so much for my birthday card. I love it! and I love you for being so sweet. Goofy but sweet lol. Love & Hugs to ya!!!! January 10 Game DayThe Packers play the Seahawks tomorrow at 3:00 and boy I sure hope they kick butt! I have a couple friends who I met in Seattle last year and they are big Seahawks fans lol. So we have a friendly rivalry going on between us. Oh and Brett is considering coming back next year!!!!
I went to the bar for awhile tonight and you know how conversations go from one thing to another. Well they got onto politics. I have to tell you that I found it very interesting. Every man there was against Hillary Clinton. Now let me say that not all the women there were for her either. What I found interesting is that none of the men were. It makes me wonder if it's a man thing. I really think that it wouldn't matter what women ran for president because I don't believe they would vote for her either just because she's a women. I would like to think I'm wrong and that there are men out there that would vote for a women if she is the best one for the job. I would hope that they wouldn't vote for a man just because the other candidate is a women. I mentioned other women like Condolezza Rice and even (heaven forbid) Ann Coulter and all the men said they wouldn't vote for them either. So I asked them why they wouldn't, is it just because they are women. They all denied it of course but I really think that's the whole crux of it. So then I asked them what women would they vote for and they said there isn't a women in politics today or one that they could think of that they would want to see as president. I do hope there are some enlightened men in this country who are open minded enough to simply vote for whoever is best suited for the job, be it man or women. A women certainly can't do any worse then the men have done over the years. Especially the one that's in there now. I myself haven't made up my mind yet. On the republican side I like McCain the best. On the democratic side I like John Edwards and Hillary Clinton. I would worry about Barak OBama if he got elected. Why you ask, well I'll tell ya. Simply because there are too many hate groups like the white supremacists and the Ku Klux Klan around who would go ballistic if he won the election. So I would worry that they would try to do something stupid like the stupid people they are. Personally I don't know why anyone would want that job. I know I wouldn't. It is a dirty job but someone has to do it. Political humor...
CANNIBAL RESTAURANT
The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, 'Why such a price difference for the Politician?" January 09 At least the sun is shining todayIs winter over yet? I know it's only January but I'm so ready for spring to get here. I want to be back out on my deck with a good book and my cd's. At least the sun is shining today so that's good. It's been so cloudy and foggy here for days and days and that just makes you feel glum. I really need to get out and about. I feel the walls closing in on me. I want to remember when I'm done here to check the web site to see when eagle watching days start again. At least that's something we can do for a day's outing and do something. My daughter's upset with me. I told you she was expecting a baby right? Well we were talking the other day and she was saying she can't button her pants already. Now she's barely 2 months along if she's that. Oops I said, maybe you're going to have twins lol. You know what she said to me? She told me, her own Mother, to shut-up lol! Her own mother and she talked to me like that. The nerve of her lol. It is a possibility though, she's a twin. When I had her two older brothers I wanted just one more child. Hoping for a girl but not really caring one way or another. Imagine my surprise when I was 6 months along I found out I was carrying twins. I was so shocked that I don't even remember driving home from that doctors appointment that day. After finding that out all I cared about was that they were healthy. I didn't care if they were two girls or two boys or one of each, I just wanted them healthy. So many crazy things went through my mind during the rest of the months ahead. I worried about Siamese twins, I worried about deformities, I worried myself sick. When they were born all my worries vanished. The were healthy beautiful baby's. We were blessed with another handsome son and a beautiful daughter. He was the bigger baby weighing in at 6 lbs. 11 oz's and she was 4 lbs. 14 oz's. That's a lot of baby to carry around so you can imagine how big my tummy was. So ya, it's very conceivable that she too could have twins. I don't care if she has one or two, as long as it's healthy is all I care about. I sure don't want another baby to have to go through what William went through. That's just too hard to watch. Ok, I'm outta here. I need to get dressed and do something around here. What I don't know but I'm sure I'll find something. We all know we can always find something to do don't we ladies? January 07 Tornado warning
Oh I was so glad Desperate housewives was back on last night. I was so worried about Lynette's family lol Sure was glad to see them come out of that house lol. Ya, Ya, Ya, I know I need a life don't I lol. I really do like that show though. Don't think I'd want to live on Wisteria Lane but it's fun to watch. Well, I can't think of another thing to talk about. Gee, this must be the shortest blog I've ever done. Bet you guys are happy lol. So, I guess I'll go upstairs and srap some. Have a wonderful week ya'all!!!
One Sunday, in counting the money in the weekly offering, the pastor of a small church found a pink envelope containing $1000. It happened again the next week.
The following Sunday, he watched as the offering was collected and saw a little old lady put the distinctive pink envelope in the plate. This went on for weeks until the pastor, overcome by curiosity, approached her.
"Sister, I couldn't help but notice that you put $1,000 a week in the collection plate," he stated.
"Why yes," she replied, "every week my son sends me money, and I give some of it to the church."
The pastor replied, "That's wonderful, how much does he send you?" The old lady said, "$10,000 a week."
The pastor was amazed. "Your son is very successful; what does he do for a living?"
"He is a veterinarian," she answered.
"That is an honorable profession," the pastor said. "Where does he practice?"
The old lady said proudly, "In Nevada. He has two cat houses in Las Vegas > and one in Reno." January 06 January thaw is hereThis is how our trees looked a few weeks ago when we had that ice storm. Today though the temperature is 46 and almost all the snow has melted. Yesterday was in the 40's as well and tonight we might even get some thunderstorms. So this must be our January that we get every year. Well, like the saying goes. If you live in Wisconsin, wait 15 minutes and the weather will change on ya. And that is so very true. Can you believe that Brady got MVP!!! I'm shocked lol. Brett should have gotten it. That is my totally unbiased opinion lol. So what if he's gotten it before. He should get it every year until he retires lol. Don't you think so? What were they thinking giving it to that young whipper snapper Brady lol.I guess I'm going to have to write them and give them a piece of my mind lol. Speaking of Brett, they don't play today as they get a by week. Next week we play the Seahawks, so it's back to biting my nails week. Did you watch the Jags and Steelers game last night? Holy cow what a game that was. The Steelers were down 28 - 10, so I figured the game was over even though it was early. So I changed the channel to watch 48 hours. After I went back to the game I couldn't believe it. The Steelers came back and the score was 29 - 28, they kicked a field goal and went ahead in the last half of the 4th quarter. Then the last few seconds of the game the Jags got the ball, kicked a field goal and ended up winning 31 - 29. Now I feel sorry for you guys if Beth's Jags end up having to play my Packers in the playoffs lol. We will be at each others throats before, during and after that game lol. Of course though I know that the Packers will kick their butts lol. Here's a little Football Q & A for ya.
Q: What do you call 53 people sitting around a TV watching the Super Bowl? Q: How do you keep a Chicago Bear out of your yard? Q: Where do you go in Chicago in case of a tornado? Q: What do you call a Chicago Bear with a Super Bowl ring? Q: Why doesn't Springfield have a professional football team? Q: What's the difference between the Chicago Bears & a dollar bill? Q: What do the Chicago Bears and possums have in common? Q: How many Chicago Bears does it take to win a Super Bowl? And my favorite: January 04 Commercials
Hey everyone, Beth is having a scrapbook challenge here on spaces. She would love it if you joined in. I think it's going to be fun. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. Just click on the link to go to her site to see how it works and what you do. ****************** I was thinking about commercials the other day that drives me nuts. There are certain commercials that I just hate. For instance... I hate those diet commercials. You know the ones where they have women who say, I was a size 12 and now I'm a size 6. Or I was a size 10 and now I'm a 4. Now what I want to know is what the heck is wrong with being a size 12 or a 10? Of course it makes a difference if your tall or short but these women were tall. I think it gives the wrong message to teenage girls who might be that size. But on these commercails these are women not kids. I think a women who is of average hight looks just fine and healthy being a size 12. I don't think that is overweight at all and they probably look anorexic being that small. Another one is the Burger King commercial. The King is the most unappetizing symbol around if you ask me lol. Looking at him doesn't make me want to run out and get a whopper. Oh, and then there's the Enzyte commercial. You know the one I mean. The "male enhancement" commercial. Now that Bob found Enzyte he's a happy camper and Mrs. Bob is even happier lol. And all the people in the neighborhood are wondering why they have that sly little grin on their faces. Doesn't it make you want to run right out and get some LOL!!! There use to be a commercial from one of our local businsess that ruined my appetite. It was a company that makes drapes and blinds for your windows. The commercial would start with "what are you looking at?" Then you would see this very overweight man sitting on a bench watering his lawn. But the kicker was he didn't have on a shirt and he had a hairy back and it showed the crack of his butt. Not something I want to see I tell ya. Thank God they finally got some taste and took that commercial off the air. Once more it seems they always showed it right around dinner time. I sure was glad when that one was gone. Now of course with this being an election year we are going to be bombarded with political commercials. Woopie, can't hardly wait lol. So tell me, what commercials drives you nuts. January 02 A cold blustery day!I thought I'd share a picture that Bill took the other day when he walked down by the river. It's a picture of the Big Hills that I've posted before but during summer time. The snow is still sticking to the trees and that makes for very pretty scenery. Cold but pretty. Speaking of cold, it's freezing here. The temp is 7 degrees with a wind chill expected today to be around 20 below. But by the weekend it's predicted to be near 50 by Friday. That must be our January thaw we get most every year. On the other hand we still have February and March to get through. But us Wisconsinites are tough people and we'll get through it lol. Complaining the whole time but, we'll get through it. Does anyone know that if you have never taken anything off of your space like I haven't for going on 2 years now, that it can cause your space to be slow? Mine is awful slow for me but it could also be my computer. I seem to have more problems with spaces though then I do with other website's. So if any puter guru out there knows the answer please share it with me lol. Do you get gift receipts when you buy a gift for someone in case they need to exchange it? The reason I'm asking is because my son and his wife bought me a foot massager for Christmas and it doesn't work. I went back to Kohl's where they bought it to exchange for another one. I didn't get the receipt from them because I planned on just getting another one and didn't think I'd need it. Well, they didn't have anymore. So I brought it back home with me and called Jesse to tell him I needed the receipt so I could get the money for it and go to another store to get another massager. He comes down the next day and drops off the gift receipt for me. I go back and get in line at the return center in the store and wait. Finally it's my turn. They then tell me that they have to have the original receipt to be able to give me cash for it. They can only give me in store credit without the original receipt. Now does that make sense to you? What's the point of getting gift receipts if you can't get the money for a returned item. It's not my fault they don't have anymore and I wanted another one. So, I brought it back home with me again!!! Luckily they still have the original receipt and I'll stop there to get it when I want to make yet another trip to Kohl's. So I guess I won't bother getting a gift receipt for gifts when I buy them anymore, there's no point to it. Here's a few funny's for you that made me laugh this morning...
Tetnus Shot The old man in his mid-eighties ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A husband and wife went in for counseling after 15 years of marriage. When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a passionate, painful tirade listing every problem they had ever had in the 15 years they had been married.
